Questions

QuestionsIs there a limit to the number of questions a person should be allowed to ask in a day? Or better yet is there a cap on the number of questions a person can ask in a lifetime? I understand that asking questions is important in the development of children, but seriously, I think my son Seven is going to set some kind of record!

This topic is fresh on my mind since we just spent the past two days in a van with our children. I loved these past two days with my family, but my ears are going to enjoy a bit of a break from the constant questions!

Here is where I am going with this thought…

I want to learn to be more like Seven. I think I need to learn to ask more questions. I think there is a brilliant art to asking God questions, probing questions, thought provoking questions, dig-a-little-deeper questions that take us on a journey to understanding, that strengthens us, enlightens us, and encourages us.

I just listened to the unabridged audiobook version of Rob Bell’s new book “Love Wins” and I think one of the most powerful things about Rob Bell is that he asks questions. Lots of questions.

Good questions.

Tough questions.

Questions that sometimes make you think, “Are we allowed to ask that?”

And we need to realize that there are no questions that should be off limits with God. I believe he can handle any question we might ask.

If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you. ~ James 1:5

Lord, I want to understand this freedom to ask anything. To make a practice of asking questions to dig deeper than I knew I could go. Thank you for giving us such freedom. You truly bless us beyond what we deserve.
