A Moment of Love

I often listen to music while I mow lawns. Lately I have really enjoyed Pandora for my music listening pleasure. It has introduced me to so many artists I had never heard of before! I know I may be behind the curve a little here, but what a great service!
Anyway, I was listening to Pandora on a “Mumford & Sons” station and I was struck by a song. I became rooted in my steps and simply closed my eyes and sang along.
It was quite a moment.
Take a moment to listen to Wondrous Love by Blue Highway:
1) What wondrous Love is this, oh my soul, oh my soul 2) When I was sinking down, sinking down, sinking down 3) And when from death I’m free, I’ll sing on, I’ll sing on
What wondrous Love is this, oh my soul
What wondrous Love is this that caused the Lord of Bliss
To bear the dreadful curse for my soul, for my soul
To bear the dreadful curse for my soul
When I was sinking down, sinking down
When I was seeking down beneath God’s righteous frown,
Christ laid aside His crown for my soul, for my soul
Christ laid aside His crown for my soul
And when from death I’m free, I’ll sing on
And when from death I’m free, I’ll sing and joyful be
And through eternity I’ll sing on, I’ll sing on
And through eternity I’ll sing on
I am not sure what caused me to pause. I was simply moved and gave in to the moment. I felt an overwhelming sense of love and comfort. Like a big hug.
The ideas of love and specifically God’s love have been on my heart lately as I have been reading Rob Bell’s newest book, Love Wins. I am not looking to begin a theological debate because of this book. My thought after listening to the audiobook more than once is, I want him to be right. The picture he paints of a God of love is encouraging and inviting.
Wondrous love.
Thank you Lord for the love you smother us with. We do not deserve it, we cannot earn it, we cannot lose it. Help us to embrace it and know it as true. Make it so real that we can’t help but stop and enjoy a moment of peace and comfort in your love.
