The Bald Goat

Amy

Amy BrideThis is my beautiful wife Amy Lynn Voss on the day of our wedding June 5, 1999. I am a lucky man…

I have no idea how God us together, like some kind of cosmic eHarmony matching personalities to fit together. Actually, it feels more like God had a way of putting someone with me that could tolerate all my junk and balance out my weaknesses. He found someone who understood me, who got me. Let me share a story (one I have been given permission to share!)

Amy and I were dating and hanging out at my house that I shared with two other roommates. We were standing in the hallway between my room and my roommate’s room and I began to smell something…something bad. I thought my roommate had let one rip in his room while we were talking to him. I thought I would have a little fun and pin it on Amy. So I turn to my and say, “That stinks! was that you?!” She just looks at me as says, “Yea…It happens.” In an instant I knew she was the one…

I remember one of our first “dates” we were watching “the Shining” on TV. It was not the original classic Shining but a remake that has hopefully been forgotten. It was shown as a mini series over the span of 3 or 4 days and we would get together each night to watch it. But they skipped a day. And Amy and I didn’t watch TV. We just sat there talking. Ok, I did all the talking. Seriously. I remember taking Amy home and returning back to my apartment and telling my roommate, “Jamie, don’t know about her. She doesn’t talk! I must have talked for like 3 hours!” Amy on the other hand returned to her dorm and talked to her roommate and said, “I don’t know, Laurie. He doesn’t stop talking! must have talked for like 3 hours!” We have worked on our communication skills since then and things have gotten much better.

I am so thankful God blessed me with such a loving wife to love me and care for me. An amazing mother of my four beautiful children. A partner in ministry and wise counsel in life. God knew what I needed and gave me more than I deserved. So here is my prayer for today:

Lord, thank you for sending Amy into my life. You have blessed me with a help-mate and best friend. May I never take for granted this gift of love.
