The Bald Goat

Piper Mughain Voss

There is a certain sappy ooey gooey nature to the posts I am posting this week. I am not ashamed and I am excited to share all this with you. If you don’t like love then go somewhere else for a week or forever, because that is what you are going to get this week. This is the week of love…

Piper

If you do not know my daughter, Piper, let me introduce you to one of the smartest, fun, most beautiful young ladies in the whole world. (I am her dad and can make that claim!) And just if you are wondering, her middle name is pronounced moon. It is a beautiful old Celtic name! (Amy and I love names!)

I can’t believe I have been blessed to have a daughter. Girls are pretty rare to us Vosses. Boys, we have a plentiful supply of, but Girls only pop up every so often. Out of my parent’s 9 grandchildren, only 2 are girls. 3 sons, 7 grandsons, and 2 granddaughters. Piper is in an elite group. She is my firstborn and she is daddy’s little girl. I am going to have to limit myself in this post because I could talk about her for a long time. If you want to read some amazing stories of all my children, my wife Amy (who I blogged about yesterday) has a great blog over here.

Let me tell you about the picture above any why my heart melts when I see it. Kids get marks at school each day based on their behavior and we thought it was a good idea to reward this good behavior with a special treat. Not much. Nothing expensive. Once a month, at the end of the month, we take the ones who have had a “perfect” record for the month and treat them to a small trinket or special activity. (We have put in place a rule that the “special treat” can not have a heartbeat. This is why.)

Well this month Piper decided that the special treat that she wanted, the thing that would reward her for a month of good behavior, was a trip to Starbucks…with me. Just the two of us on a daddy daughter date to Starbucks. We sat for an hour, both of us with our coffee, and just talked and laughed. I will cherish that hour of my life forever…

I was listening to the radio the other day and the song Daughters came on by John Mayer. Have you heard it?

I couldn’t help but think of Piper…

Lord, give me guidance as I raise and love my daughter. Let me be a good father. Let me be a good father… I am human and make mistakes. Please give me grace in her eyes that she may see you when she looks at me and not the flawed human that stands before her. You have given me a precious gift. Thank you…
