The Bald Goat

Belong

Alone

Exciting things are happening today with God’s Care Lawnscapes! Today we partnered with the International Rescue Committee and will be hiring a young Bhutanese man who has come to America as a refugee living in Nepal. I actually hope this is the first of many people we will be able to bring on board at God’s Care through the IRC.

I did a little research tonight about the struggles in this part of the world and foundĀ this amazing resource. When the people at the IRC were telling me a little about the situation in Bhutan, they made the comment that neither Bhutan nor Nepal accepted them as citizens of their country so they were basically a people with no country. Simply stated, the mission of the IRC is to help people move from “Harm to Home”. They work in areas of language skills of the resettlement location, citizenship status, employment, education, housing, transportation, and whatever else you can think of. This change can be overwhelming and they try to ease the struggles. To help displaced people find a home.

As an employer we are able to help in this process by giving someone a job. A source of income. It is really only a portion of what is needed to turn Abilene, TX into a home, but it is an important part of what needs to happen. You see, since no one would give them citizenship in Nepal or Bhutan, they could not work. They could not earn a living or support themselves or their family. Now that they have refugee status they can get a job. It may not seem like much, but emotionally it is everything. They have security and they can provide for themselves and their family. We hope to be able to invest more in the people who come to work for us, but at the very least we are playing a critical part in the lives of these refugees to help them have a home.

As my day went on and the thoughts of the IRC and the situation of our new employee were going through my head I had my iPhone music on shuffle. This song that came on by Chris Rice called “Belong”. Take a minute to listen.

The struggles of my life are nothing compared with any of the refugees you might meet. But I think we have a common desire. I believe we all long for a place where we can belong. A place to call home. We long for heaven, our eternal home, but God wants us to work to create heaven on earth, here, as someday it will be in heaven. I can not express to you how amazing I think it is that God would allow a simple lawn care company to help bring heaven to this world. That we could help someone know that they have a place to belong.
